Hold Me
I was adopted at 9 months of age and found my birth mother at age 18. Our relationship has been sporadic since.
Adoption creates a strange triad, with the adoptee in the middle between birth parents and adoptive parents. Families are intertwined entities that leave a large footprint on our psyche. Unseen or seen webs connect all the members and leave an indelible mark regardless of whether or not the family figures and archetypes are still present in our lives.
I was raised in a family and have always known of my adoption. I always fantasized about who my mother was. When I met her intense feelings bubbled to the surface.
This series is the expression of feelings I had but did not have words for. I could begin to unravel the complexities of my absent relationship and my identity through imagery. It is a dialogue with a vague sense of displacement and a yearning for place.
Silver Gelatin prints are available in limited editions of fifteen.
